< PreviousWmCf f fSTSR MODEL 03 AUT OMA TIC RIFLE How to Fill the Magazine Hold the gun muzzle clown and turn the magazine plug, seated in depression in butt plate, to the left, and draw out the magazine tube until magazine follower clears opening in stock. Drop the cartridges, bullet foremost, through open ing in stock into the magazine. Push in the magazine tube and lock it by turning the magazine plug to the right. Using the Gravity Charger Fill the charger by pushing five car tridges head first into each tube. Insert spring end into opening in the stock. Press downward and the spring will re lease the cartridges. Hold the gun muzzle down so that the cartridges will run in freely. Gravity Charger To L o a d t h e G u n Push quickly back the operating sleeve, which projects from the forearm, and let it spring forward. This cocks t h e h a m m e r a n d throws a cartridge into the chamber . After this, the gun is loaded and cocked until the last charge is fired. Do not hold back on the trigger. Let it move forward after each shot. Unloading The magazine can be emptied without shooting, either by working the operating skeve backward and forward with- a quick and positive motion, or by withdrawing the magazine tube entirely from the gun, and pushing back the operating sleeve. If it is desired to remove the cartridge from the chamber, draw the magazine tube out sleeve follower cleare opening in stock, and then push back the operating To Ta k e D o w n t h e G u n Cock the gun by pushing in the operating sleeve. Press down the take-down screw lock, found under the take-down screw located at the rear of the receivei', and turn the take-down screw to the left until it is free from the receiver. Draw the barrel ai^d forearm directly forward. In cleaning the barrel, retract the bolt by pushing back the operating sleeve, and lock it by tuming the tip. It is handy, can be taken apart in an instant, and is a strong, reliable arm. It is well adapted for small game and target shooting. It is used by the best professional fancy rifle shots in this countiy and abroad. Its light weight and the ease with which it can be manipulated, make it very desirable for the woman shooter also. The action is simple and strong. The parts are few in number and are made in accordance with the Winchester interchangeable system. The breech bolt is in plain view, and is of such size as to permit the use of a strong firing pin and extractor and also to offer a good cover for the head of the cartridge. The action locks with the closing movement and cannot be opened except by letting down the hammer or push ing forward the firing pin. The Model 90 is fitted with a bead front sight having a bright alloyed tip which will not tamish and an adjustable open rear sight, and has a straight grip butt stock of selected walnut with a steel rifle butt plate. Pistol grip stocks and fancy walnut stocks, oil or polished finish can be furnished at additional charge. This model is chambered to shoot any one of the following four Rimfire car tridges; .22 Short, .22 Long, .22 Long Rifle, or .22 W. R. F. The Model 90 Rifle will handle only the cartridge for which it is chambered and bored as stamped on the baiTel. The Magazine of the .22 Short gun will hold fifteen cartridges, the .22 Long twelve, the .22 Long Rifle eleven, and the .22 W. R. F. twelve. The .22 W. R. F. is the most powerful .22 caliber rimfire cartridge on the market and is most effective for .22 caliber hunting purposes and for use on small game. These cartridges are furnished with various combinations of powder and bullet, as shown in section on metallic ammunition. Charging the Magazine Turn the milled head at the top of the magazine until the magazine tube is un locked. Draw out the inner tube. This will leave the loading hole open. Cartridges can then be dropped into the magazine until same is full. The magazine of the .22 Short will hold fifteen .22 Short Winchester carbidges. The magazine of the 22 Long will hold twelve .22 Long Winchestei- cartridges. The magazine of the .22 Long Rifle will hold eleven .22 Long Rifle Winchester cartridges. The magazine of the 22 Winchester Rim-Fire gun will hold twelve .22 W. R. F. cartridges. After the maga zine is full, press down^the inner tube. When clear down, turn to the left to lock it in place. To empty the magazine without passing the cartridges through the gun, draw the inner tube out entirely, and the cartridges will drop out of the mouth of the magazine. To Load the Gun When the hammer is down, the motion of the handle backward and forward un locks, opens, and cocks the gun, forces the cartridge into the chamber, and locks the gun. The gun once closed is locked, while the hammer stands at full or half cock To open the gun without firing or letting down the hammer, push forward the firing pin with the thumb, and pull back the handle at the same time. When the gun stands at half cock, it is locked both as to the opening of the breech and the pulling of the trigger. The hammer cannot be cocked by the motion of the breech bolt from this position, but must be cocked by hand. To take out breech bolt, remove the magazine ring pin; draw out the magazine; slide out the cover plate; lift out the action slide; press on the firing pin; unlock the breech bolt and draw it out backwards. To take out the extractor, drive out the extractor pin from the bottom of the breech bolt. To remove the firing pin, take out the firing pin stop screws and remove the firing pin stop. The firing pin can then be drawn out. To remove the hammer and carrier block from the tang, take oif the stock, loosen the mainspring strain screw and the mainspring screw; slide the stimip off the mainspring, pressing down the mainspring to accomplish this. The mainspring can then be swung out sideways. The assembling screw and assembling screw bushing can then be removed and the hammer taken out. To take out the trigger; loosen the trigger spring screw; drive out the trigger pin. To assemble, put in trigger and trigger spring, carrier and hammer, and slip in hammer pin. Slide the stirrup over the mainspring and tighten the mainspring screw and mainspring strain screw. Put the firing pin in the breech bolt, and replace firing pin stop and stop screws. Replace extractor, driving in pin from top. Slip the breech bolt into the frame. Replace action slide, and put on the slide cover. Re place magazine. To do this, turn the magazine so that the loading hole is next the barrel; slip the magazine stop spring in place; slide the magazine with stop spring in place so that the lower end of stop spring is under the magazine ring; turn the mag azine so that stop spring comes next the barrel, and push it into place. Replace the magazine pin.
