The action is of the up-turn and pull-back type, which pennits of fewer and more rugged parts than any other system. Characteristic features of this gun due to its bolt action and design are: first its slim, thoroughbred outline, second its balance and consequent ease of pointing and third its powerful extraction and positive ejection. This shotgun has a beautiful balance and "hang" and points with remark able quickness and accuracy as soon as it is thrown to the shoulder. It shoots where you look. Eveiy part of this gun is made of Winchester quality, highest grade material. The baiTel is bored with the same accuracy and skill as the barrels of Winchester guns of larger bore and tested with the Winchester Definitive Proof Test which requires it to withstand more than the severest top loads made by any American manufacturer without sign of flaw or strain. The bolt opens with a powerful lever age against a cam which insures positive extraction. Any tendency of the shell to stick in the chamber is reduced to a minimum, and the ejection is absolutely positive. The breech is featured by a wide, roomy opening that gives plenty of space for loading. The lock is equipped with a rebounding lock, and is cocked by pulling rear ward on the knurled firing pin head. This gun is a two-piece Take-down. It is taken apart veiy easily by unscrewing a thumbscrew located under the forearm. It can be taken down and put together in a very few seconds. Taken down, the barrel section is 31% inches long and the gun measures 441/^ inches over all. It has a 24 inch full choke barrel, handsome one-piece pistol grip stock, fitted with a rubber butt plate, and is pleasing in every line. The stock will be furnished in straight grip if so ordered, at no additional cost. It is strong, serviceable, hard hit ting, and accurate up to the limit of range for a shotgun of this caliber. It has all the shooting qualities that the larger gauge guns possess within its effective range of 30 yards. It is specially adapted to practice shooting and small game hunting. The cost of ammunition is comparatively little. This Winchester .410 is an ideal gun for women and the younger members of the family to shoot because of its virtual absence of recoil and its light weight. These qualities have made it highly popular wherever it has been used. This gun has all the finish and balance of the Winchester standard size shotgun; It is made with the same care and accuracy. The barrel is of the highest grade gu steel, accurately bored, and bearing the Winchester Proof Mark of barrel quality. The stock of this gun is a handsome, well finished, black walnut product, with pistol grip. The barrel is 26 inches long. The length of trigger pull is 13V2 inches; dro^j at heel 2Vh inches, and drop at comb 1 9-16 inches. The weight of the gun is about 6 pounds. The action is simple and strong. The gun is of the top lever "break down" type, coming down in three pieces. It is taken down and put together easily and quickly. How to Assemble It First remove the forearm from the barrel. This may be done by simply giving the front end of the forearm a sharp pull away from the baiTel. Then take the stock in the right hand, holding it by the grip with the butt resting at the side of the body under the right am. Grasp the barrel near the middle with The .410 Loaded Paper Shot Shell 72 WWW.RIFLEMAN.ORG.UK"wmcf fssT eR MODEL 20—SINGLE SHOT BREAK-DOWN SHOTGUN .410 BORE Model 20 "Broken" the left hand, the thumb pointing towards the muzzle. Tilt the muzzle downwards and hook the rear of the barrel into the frame. Then snap the rear of the barrel down so that it locks in the closed position. Place the rear end of the forearm under the barrel, push it firmly against the frame, and then press it up into position. Before shooting the gun it is important that all surplus grease be removed from the inside of the barrel. This can easily be done by pushing a few small pieces of cloth through the barrel with the cleaning rod. The cloth should be placed in the slot in the end section of the cleaning rod. Gun Taken Apart H o w I t i s L o a d e d Press the top lever (just over the grip) to the right with the right thumb, at the same time tipping the barrel downwards with the left hand. This is called "breaking" the gun. Place the shell in the chamber and then close the gun. Do not cock the hammer until ready to shoot. In order to unload the gun after it is cocked it is necessary to lower the hammer with the thumb, for the action is locked when the gun is cocked. The gun is fitted with an automatic ejector which throws out the loaded or empty shell when the gun is "broken." To Take It Apart Pull the tip of the forearm straight down from the barrel until it disengages. Break the gun and then lift the barrel from the frame. Snap the foreann back on the barrel for convenience in packing. 73 WWW.RIFLEMAN.ORG.UK2 ^ 5 g* § f I S 3 « » 3 g 3 3 3 fe g iS -S -O °-S.?. S.C § D-^ 3-|l S-^l 5 2. 3; 3 ° 3- S" a«i:|ill?- ?
