Each has been developed with the aim of providing equipment that would win the lasting affec tion of every gun lover. Recent developments that have added new features of service to the Win c h e s t e r l i n e i n c l u d e : Winchester Stainless Steel Barrels—Available on special order at an additional charge for any Winchester rifle or shotgun. Again Winchester pioneering in the fabricating of steel has made available this exceptionally rust-defying steel for rifle and shotgun barrels. Bored and rifled with Winchester precision and exactitude, these barrels virtually do away with the threat of rusting and pitting whether from powder residues or from climatic conditions. In addition they give greatly increased resistance to erosion and the action of hot gases so that their length of service is materially increased and their original accuracy is retained over a greatly length ened period. Lacquered Leader Shotshells—By the addition of a coat of protective yet transparent lac quer these famed Leader shells have had their idready notable waterproof qualities enhanced, have been given an ideal hardness of crimp and a lustrous beauty that will appeal to any shotgun lover's eye. Staynless Ammunition—Winchester has also developed its Staynless non-corrosive prim ing which offers freedom from rusting and pitting of the rifle bore with the i-etention of all the dependability and accuracy for which Winchester ammunition is noted. Staynless priming is offered in a full line of rimfire .22 cartridges and in center fire cartridges for all types of rifle, pistol and revolver shooting. This non-corrosive priming is also used in combination with Lesmok pow der in .22 rimfire cartridges to provide a series of cartridges that offer the users of Lesmok am munition a combination that reduces rusting and pitting to a minimum. Originally offered in the new .270 Winchester and .30 Gov't. '06 calibers, its scope has now been enlarged by the additions of the .30 Winchester (.30-30) 7 m/m, 7.65 m/m and 9 m/m calibers. A remarkable development of the Model 54 is the new Sniper's Model now available for the most extremely accurate high power riflery. Made in .30 Gov't. '06 caliber only. In the line of .22 caliber rifles, recent developments include the Models 56 and 57, bolt action rifles, of the same type and mechanical features as the famed Model 52 target rifle but lighter weight, smaller arms. They are designed to furnish the famous Model 52 action in a sporting and a target rifle of lighter type. WINCHESTER PROOF MARK This test is given every rifle or shotgun of Winchester make. It is given after the gun has been assembled. A charge far in excess of any for which the gun is intended is fired in the arm which is then minutely inspected and gauged for any sign of flaw or strain developed by the test. Only when it has passed this test without trace of any flaw can it receive the Winchester Proof Mark the mark of master guncraft. This is a guarantee, recognized throughout the world, of Winchester gun perfection. When Winchester guns are assembled they are tested thoroughly for smoothness of action This test for manipulation consists of operating the gun with "dummy" cartridges and also firing It, both slowly and quickly to detect any defect that might exist.
