We have seen certain paragraphs appearing in newspapers and have also been infor1r1ed that there is probably to be adopted a pattern or patterns of miniature rifles; if such is the case, we should like to have an opporcunity of tendering for the supply thereof. We may mention, that we have for some few years past, manufactured miniature rifles, and should probably think we produce more of these rifles than anybody else in this country, of no matter what pattern. We should be pleased to forward one or more models of the rifle we are now turning out for this class of shooting, the rifles being manufactured throughout at the above ~ddress, two or three wood screv,rs and spiral spring excepted. We beg to remain, Yours obediently, ( Sd). Cogswell & Harrison Ltd. (Sd). Ewart Harrison, Managing Director. Sir, With further .2 .-(l 2nd November,l905. r.;fl,h~. ~tr/ . . - 11 Of 25th Oct • , Ho.77/15/4052, (A.3), inviting us to submit for consideration a miniature rifle prepared in accordance with the S1~·ecification then atteo.ched, we be t-; to say that c~fter ins pecting the model rifle c..t the WE~r Office, we very much regret our inability to comply with tne condition as to time$ The mo de l rifle at the War Of'fice h c.s evidently- been produced me r ely as a guide to the gener a. l al~·pearance and o: ; tline of the :pro1osed rifle, and can in no sense be looked upon as a p&ttern ar.m. As i t. would t <J<:e us at least t hree months to design &nd produce a model t c fulfil the requirements of the DeJ;artment it is obviously impossible for ti"s to submit a desien by the 1st December, We believe that a sa t i s factory bOlt action v.reap on can be desi£ned and a model p roduced in the time we have · mentioned -- three months. Th e~ cost we estimate approximately at 35/- per rifle, if made in large numbers, but it wou ld not be fitted with a magazine. This addition, which we have not yet thought out a proper method ot· applying, would probably increase the cost by about 5/-. In order t o cover the necessary out lay tools ani A . ga.uges required in the manufacture, \Ve have assumed that an- order for at least 20,000 rifles would be g iven in the event of our model being adopted.
