The following is a copy of a message received from His Majesty The King ; " I duly submitted the results of the ' King George V ' Trophy and Imperial Challenge Shields Competitions to the King, ;uid His Majesty was glad to find that they were so satisfactory and to hear that there had been a large increase in the numbers of boys taking part in the competitions. C. Willott, R.A.F., of Plymouth, with a score of 280 after a tie. He is the first R.A.F. officer to win the prize. In congratulating him and the R.A.F. on such an outstanding success, we cannot overlook the fact that the airmen's service has always regarded small-bore rifle shooting as fundamental training for all shooting in their Service. We have much to thank both Air Vice-Marshal F. C. Halahan and Wing-Cbnimander J. L. K. Pearce for in so long and ably advo cating the use of the .22 rifle as fundamental practice. Like so many King's Prize-winners before him, S/Ldr. C. C. Willott has paid tribute to the same idea when on 14th August he \wote to the S.M.R.C. Secretary : " Many thanks for your kind congratulations. .As a matter of fact I started my shooting with the good old ' miniature' in 1922 and have kept it up ever since." On Saturday, 21 st September he shot for Devon with the .22 rifle in their S.M.R.C. competitions for the B.S.A. and County Cup team. S/Ldr. Willott has been four times in the King's Hundred at Bisley, and in 1931 was a member of the British rifle team which w e n t t o C a n a d a u n d e r C o m . S i r L i o n e l F l e t c h e r . That Capt. H. St. G. Maxwell, senior, has applied himself to the development of Suffolk County Association shooting affairs for a number of years past has been of distinct advantage to .22 rifle shooting, as well as that for .303 rifle shooting, and this has been evident from the advance in recent league scores.
