WWW.RIFLEMAN.ORG.UK25 fi r e h a m R . C . The annual meeting of the members of the Fareham Rifle Club was held at the range on Monday evening, June iQtl'- Mr. H. F. Rawstorne, J.P.,C.C. (Pres ident), occupied the chair, and there were also present Captain Appleby, Messrs. A. Blackman, A. VVooldridge, J. H. Darby, J- H. Drewitt, L. Shilling, H. Clark, H. E. Sutton, A. Johnstone, E. Tucker, H. Walters, H.Tatford, A. J. Driver, E. Swaffield, E. Edmunds, W. Frecmantle, J.Luff, C. Dunn, and the hon. secretary, Mr. H. J. Edmunds. In his opening remarks, the Chairman said it was gratifying to be able to say that there had been no casualties among the members of the club who were on active service. The war bad affected the club by reason of the fact that since it started the E a r e h a m V o l u n t e e r T r a i n i n g Corps had made great use of the r a n g e , a n d t h e p r o fi t s o n t h e great sale of ammunition had enabled the debt on the building to be wiped off. The success achieved had necessitated the constant attention and the appli c a t i o n o f m u c h e n e r g y b y t h e hon. secretary, whose services to the club they all so much appre ciated. Then, the success of the shooting competitions was due to him and also in a very great measure to Mr. A. Wooldridge, the shooting captain of the V.T.C. The shooting had been of a won derfully high standard, and it seemed to improve as time went on. The hon. secretary then pre sented his annual report for the year ended March 31st last. It was mainlv financial in character, but would'be memorable in that it included a statement showing that the debt on the building fund had been entirely wiped off. The reports of shooting were a record of the doings of the Fareham Volunteer Training Corps. No less than 60,900 rounds of ammunition had been used during the year, and they could not, therefore, be surprised at the very satisfactory state of profi ciency the corps team had ac quired. That was also largely due to the efforts of the corps shootingcaptain, Mr. Wooldridge, who had devoted a deal of time to the matches, and it was a very fortunate move on the part of the Corps to appoint him to the office. In the Mackworth-Praed competition the Club reached the fourth round, defeating first, Lonan Isle of Man, 754 to 750 ; second, Torquay, 760 to 742 ; third, " C " Co., 2nd Somerset, 77.1-765, and in the fourth round being defeated by "A" Co., Chesterfield, 765-77.T Out of 16 matches 12 were won, three were lost, and one ended in a tie. The i n t e r s e c t i o n s h o o t s f o r M r. L . Shilling 's cup were keenly con tested. The statement of receipts and expenditure for the past year, as audited by Mr. J. Norris Evans, showed receipts amounting to ;^5o 6s. 6d., including balance brought forward of £7 9s. lod. ; members and hon. subscriptions, £i(> l6s., and profits in sale of ammunition, £21 17s. 2d. The expenditure amounted to 4(44 5s. 5d., including ^31 lOs. 56. carried to the Building Fund account, and le.aving a credit balance at the end of the year of £6 is. id. Mr. Blackman, in moving the adoption of (he report and balance sheet, said that they were most gratifying, and he congratulated the club upon arriving at such a successful financial condition. It was really a red letter day in the history of the club that they were on that occasion able to meet on their own premises, seeing that they were now free from debt. Mr. Darby seconded the motion, and it was unanimously adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows ; President, Mr. Raw- s t o n e ; V i c e - P r e s i d e n t s r e elected cti bloc e.xceptthat Captain Appleby was elected in place of Captain J. R. Broadley, R.N., who had left the district ; Mr. H. C l a r k w a s r e - e l e c t e d H o n . Treasurer, and Mr. J. Norris Evans Hon. Auditor. Last year's Committee was re-elected with the addition of Messrs. L. Shilling (Adjutant of the V.T.C.) and A. Wooldridge (shooting Captain V.T.C.). The President next proposed the re-election of Mr. Edmunds as Hon. Secretary, and in doing so said that the club could hardly get on without him—in fact he was the club. They all knew the i m m e n s e a m o u n t o f w o r k h e accomplished and the great in t e r e s t h e t o o k i n t h e w e l f a r e o f the club and in rifle shooting. Mr. Darby seconded the motion, which was adopted amid general applause. Mr. Edmunds expressed thanks for his re-election, and added that it would be a greater source of pleasure to him to again under take the duties seeing that the debt on the range had now been wiped off. He urged the impor tance of getting new members. Mr. Shilling took the oppor tunity of reminding all concerned t h a t t h e F a r e h a m V o l u n t e e r Training Corps welcomed all classes of men to join their ranks, not only for the purpose of learning" the drills, but also of learning how to shoot.
