It has a J" steel plate at the back of the targets which deflects the bullets into a trough containing sawdust placed underneath. The framing is of wood and both ends and bottom are lined with sheet iron so that it is impossible for any particle of the bullet to escape. The illustration shows the Catcher fitted with slots to take a loose target board for changing targets by hand. If a m^chahical "appliance is used for conveying the targets to and from the front of the Bullet Catcher, the target boards and slots »>vould) not be required. It is very compact and substantially constructed, so that it will withstand the hardest use, and the cost of constant repairs is avoided. It can be made to take .any number of targets and requires no ^ng, .being readily placed in the required position The price of the Bullet Catcher complete w^ du^icate tar^t boards for 4 targets as illustrated above, and which occupies a space of 8' long by 1' 6" deep, is ^5 5s. delivered on rail in London. Monthly , One Penny . T H E L O N D O N M E E T I N G . £?T"rsX HE Thirteenth Annual London Rifle Meeting pro moted by the Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs took place on Saturday, June loth, to Saturday, June . _L 17th, inclusive, on the range of the Ham and P e t e r s h a m R i fl e C l u b . A l t h o u g h a v e r y l a r g e n u m b e r o f t h e r i fl e m e n w h o usually attend the meeting are either serving at the front or in training in the various camps throughout the country, a record entry was obtained, no less than 487 competitors taking part in the various individual squadded events; in c l u d i n g t h o s e w h o t o o k p a r t o n l y i n u n l i m i t e d a n d t e a m events, the competitors numbered nearly 700. The large increase upon previous years is accounted for in a great m e a s u r e b y t h e s u p p o r t g i v e n b y t h e m e m b e r s o f t h e Volunteer Regiments to the six competitions included in the programme for their special benefit. In consequence of the large number of competitors, the Society found that although the meeting was held upon the largest permanent range in the country, and extended over seven days, the accommodation was hardly sufficient, the range being very congested at times, especially towards the close of the meeting. The weather during the first two days was very unfavourable, but it improved during the course of. the week, and was ideal on the last day, when the shooting in the final stages of the large team events took place. In addition to the usual events, the Society instituted for the first time a Grand Aggregate, comprising the totals of seven of the most imix>rtant competitions, and the thanks of not only the Society, but of all expert riflemen, are due to Dr. Norman Benjafield for so kindly providing a handsome challenge trophy to be held for the' ensuing year by the winner . The scoring throughout the meeting was appreciably lower than usual, but this is probably due to the partially- worn condition of the barrels of the rifles used by tlie majority of the competitors. At the conclusion of the competition Sir Herbert Mack- worth Praed, Bart., gave away the prizes. Mr. A. A. Padley introduced Sir Herbert, who, he said, had kindly come there in the place of Lord Desborough, who had an important engagement which he felt conifjelled to fulfil. Sir Herbert Praed expressed regret on behalf of Lord Desborough at his not being able to be there that afternoon, but he had to be present at the great Volunteer review in Hyde Park by Lord French. He was glad to see that the Volunteers were well represented there, and that they were now getting more the recognition they should have. Lord Desborough had told the speaker lately that the Volunteers had provided upwards of a million men for the .Army. That was a fine record. Now t h e y w e r e g o i n g t o b e a s k e d t o t r a i n t h e m e n w h o h a d o b t a i n e d e x e m p t i o n f r o m m i l i t a r y s e r v i c e i n d r i l l i n g a n d shooting, which were most important things. The miniature rifle clubs, too, had done most useful service. He (the speaker) had had some influence in getting the Morris tube introduced into the English .Army. He met Lord Wolseley at a country house when he happened to have a tube with h i m ; h e s h o w e d i t t o t h e G e n e r a l , a n d i n a f e w w e e k s i t w a s i n t r o d u c e d i n t o t h e . Many people looked down o n a n y t h i n g m i n i a t u r e , a n d h e t h o u g h t t h e n a m e " s m a l l bore " would be better.
