A Birmingham Small Arms Co. Lincoln-Jeffries design air rifle

The Standard Model 2 ca. mid 1920s'

SEE also: the The AIR RIFLE as a TRAINING WEAPON

This rifle was originally purchased in 1927 by William Edward Molyneux, who later became Commandant, S.E. Division, of the Surrey Special Constabulary.

Although barrelled in .22 calibre, it was used in the air rifle team of the Dorking Rifle Club, and subsequently employed by William's son Edward during the Second World War (1939-45) in the despatch of grey squirrels, by then already considered pests, for the 'Tail Money". Even some time after the War, there was a bounty of one shilling (5p) for every grey squirrel tail taken to the appropriate authority.

"Ted" , who is sadly no longer with us, was for many years the incredibly knowledgeable curator of the wonderful collection at the National Rifle Association's Museum at Bisley in Surrey.

This rifle was graced with neat the addition of a fore-end hand-grip attached to the under-lever link arm. The optional folding No.21 rear aperture ladder sight has been fitted to the head-stock, the mid-barrel rear-sight is the usual elevating blade model, and the barrel carries a rare windage adjustable fore-sight with protecting wings, possibly by 'Fenby'; (if you can fully identify it then please let us know).
